Hi! Elizabeth Girouard here from Pure Simple Wellness. As an Emotional Eating Coach, I often hear – “How can I reduce my sugar cravings?” Here are a few simple tricks to get you on your way!
One of the easiest ways to reduce your sugar cravings throughout the day is to start your day with a healthy balanced breakfast. When you start your day with a big bowl of sugary, processed cereal, with skim milk, you immediately cause a blood sugar and insulin surge. Unfortunately, this jumpstarts your cravings for sugar and you will continue to desire more sugar throughout the day. Instead, start your day with a healthy, protein packed breakfast to fuel your body and to fuel you throughout the day in a healthy, sustainable way. Some ideas are scrambled eggs and veggies, a vegetable omelet, sous vide egg bites, a tofu scramble, a green smoothie with clean protein powder, and chocolate chia pudding.
Another way to keep your cravings at bay is to keep yourself well hydrated. Dehydration can be mistaken for hunger and it can also cause sugar cravings. Instead of waiting until you feel thirsty, be proactive and keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Most of your body’s processes need water to function at their best, so hydrate often. The suggested amount of water each day is half your body weight in ounces of water. However, each person is unique, so start building up slowly until you find the right level for you.
