As long as I can remember, I haven’t been very good at defining or keeping New Year’s resolutions. I believe it’s because I have always lived in the Northeast (NJ and MA) in the dead of the winter. Who wants to be productive when it’s cold and dark?
I researched that New Year’s resolutions began with the Babylonians over 4000 years ago when their calendar started in mid-March, when the crops were planted. This makes sense that planting crops and the start of spring would be the perfect beginning to a new year. I always find a sense of renewal and rebirth as spring emerges every year, so this year I will hit the pause button on January 1, 2021.
Many in our community have followed my journey to find a new home for Pure Pilates. I spent the last 6 months, negotiating a new lease, plotting the next steps for the business and thinking that I successfully figured out what the future looked like for me, my team and our clients. But something was just not feeling “right”. Was it a coincidence that I hurt my back and then re-injured it a week later? A sense of overwhelm then set in and my productivity dropped. The final straw was the weeks of sleepless nights (says the woman who sleeps like a baby 8 to 9 hours solid!) and the lack of clarity I always have when I make a big decision.
I took a breath, decided not to take the amazing new space I created on paper and knew walking away was the next move. Not just the next move, the right move. I strategically have pressed the pause button on what the next Pure Pilates will look like.
“When things aren’t working, it’s the Universe trying to save your ass.” I am not sure what the Universe is trying to save me from, but I have to trust that walking away today will offer me something better in the future. Is it a bit scary? Sure. But there is something waiting for me that is more amazing than I could have imagined for the next phase of my life and business. And with the scary, I embrace the excitement of the unknown. Not easy for a controlling gal like me!
We officially close our doors on Gales Drive on December 24th and safely move the studio into storage. The ladies of Pure Pilates will continue to teach virtually this winter. Join us in our free community classes, schedule one on one appointments or jump into a live multi-level mat class. In January, we introduce a monthly membership, where you can have access to a wide-variety of workouts, taught by all the PP teachers, anytime you need a Pilates fix.
Oh, and I officially move the New Year 2021 to March. This is when I release the pause button, set my sights on a new home for the studio and toast that the best is yet to come.
