At Pure Pilates, our teachers don’t just teach Pilates, we live it. This Love Story Series is a collection of personal reflections from our team, sharing how each instructor first fell in love with Pilates, the exercises that continue to inspire them, and the self-care rituals that support their practice both inside and outside the studio. Together, these stories offer a glimpse into the passion, intention, and care that shape every session at Pure Pilates

In 2007, I was hired to work at the front desk of Pure Pilates. As part of my compensation, I was fortunate to receive a weekly private session with Carol. I was immediately drawn to the challenge, precision, and strong mind–body connection required in each exercise. Before long, Pilates became something I genuinely looked forward to, and that experience inspired me to pursue a new career as a Pilates instructor.
A Simple February Self-Care Practice
During the winter months, I make it a priority to keep my hands well moisturized and to always wear gloves when it’s cold outside. Dry winter air can quickly strip moisture from the skin, so finding a non-greasy hand cream makes it easy to reapply throughout the day. Sothys makes a lovely Velvet Hand Cream that absorbs well and fits the bill.
My Favorite Pilates Exercise: Semi-Circle on the Reformer
One of my favorite exercises is Semi-Circle on the Reformer. The gentle undulation of the spine allows me to stretch and open my back and shoulders in a way that feels both supportive and restorative. The exercise also helps improve spinal mobility while strengthening the glutes and legs to support the movement. The slow, deliberate pace is calming, and each repetition seems to feel better than the last.
