I absolutely love side sit ups in all their variations! Whether I'm on the reformer, cadillac, chair, barrel, or arc barrel, I always enjoy the challenge they provide. Side sit ups require finding length throughout the entire body, engaging the glutes to keep the legs active, and lifting the torso with control.
If you find traditional side sit ups too difficult, there are several variations on the reformer that can help you build strength and form. One of my favorite variations involves using the push through bar for added support. This allows you to focus on reaching from fingertips to toes while still having a bit of assistance for the upper body.
To try this variation, start by positioning yourself on the box with your hand on the push through bar. Find the length in your body and gently press down on the bar to help lift the torso. As you become more comfortable with this variation, you can progress to doing side sit ups with your hands behind your head to challenge yourself further.
Overall, side sit ups are a fantastic exercise that can help improve your strength, flexibility, and overall body awareness. Give them a try and see how they can benefit your workout routine!
