Where Movement Meets Meaning: A Pilates Love Story by Katie Huddleston

At Pure Pilates, our teachers don’t just teach Pilates, we live it. This Love Story Series is a collection of personal reflections from our team, sharing how each instructor first fell in love with Pilates, the exercises that continue to inspire them, and the self-care rituals that support their practice both inside and outside the studio. Together, these stories offer a glimpse into the passion, intention, and care that shape every session at Pure Pilates

I was introduced to Pilates through dance, but it wasn’t until I began my teacher certification program that I truly fell in love with the method. While my professional dance career allowed me to connect with my body, Pilates training offered a new path and unique benefits that I had been craving as I looked to change careers.

The human connection I have gained from teaching people from all walks of life is amazing. It is rewarding to see how different individuals benefit from the Pilates method in their own unique ways. My work has evolved into special one-hour sessions where I deeply connect with clients I truly care about. The ability to impact someone’s life for the better is one of the greatest gifts of this practice.

Here is a photo from the final stages of my comprehensive training at Core Pilates NYC. It shows me testing out on the Ped-o-Pull, one of my favorite apparatuses for all body types. The alignment gained by standing against the pole is highly beneficial, and standing arm work on the Ped-o-Pull is a personal favorite because you can feel every part of your body working in unison. I always feel taller afterward.

A Simple February Self-Care Practice

As you go about your daily activities, whether sitting in the car, waiting in line, or doing dishes, take notice of the shifts in your body. Take a moment to realign and stack your spine as if you had the Ped-o-Pull behind you. Correct any hip shifts or spinal compression, and feel yourself realign as you naturally grow taller. I promise it is worth the effort.
